HUGHEY NOMINATED TRANSCOM DEPUTY COMMANDER IN CHIEF

   The Bush administration has nominated Marine Corps Maj. Gen. Gary H. Hughey for appointment to the rank of lieutenant general with assignment to deputy commander in chief of the U.S. Transportation Command.

   Hughey is deputy commander and chief of staff of U.S. forces in Japan.

   Transcom, based at Scott Air Force Base in Illinois, oversees the military’s transportation logistics operations: the Army’s Military Traffic Management Command, the Navy’s Military Sealift Command, and the Air Force’s Air Mobility Command.
