IANA: FIRST-QUARTER INTERMODAL TRAFFIC FLAT
Intermodal traffic carried by the nation’s six largest railroads was nearly level in the first quarter of this year compared to the first quarter of 2000, according to figures released by the Intermodal Association of North America.
Intermodal traffic showed a slight drop of 0.1 percent. However, for the first time, domestic container traffic exceeded trailer traffic, with domestic container traffic up 8.9 percent for the first quarter. Traffic in international containers increased 2.1 percent.
