IBM completes takeover of Maersk Data
IBM said Wednesday it has completed the takeover of Maersk Data.
Founded in 1970, Maersk Data was the information technology arm of Denmark’s A.P. Moller-Maersk and also owns Americas Systems LLC. The sale of Maersk Data to IBM, announced in August, was approved by the European Commission’s competition directorate last month.
IBM said it has completed new contracts with A.P. Moller-Maersk, which will continue to use Maersk Data under IBM ownership. The big IT firm will provide A.P Moller-Maersk with management consulting, application development and management services in addition to IT infrastructure services.
The acquisition will increase IBM’s capabilities in serving clients in the transportation and logistics industry globally, the IT firm said.
