IMC 3RD QUARTER REVENUES UP, TRAFFIC DOWN
Intermodal marketing companies registered a 2.6-percent increase in third-quarter intermodal and highway revenues, while traffic declined 3.8 percent during the same period.
The traffic decline was attributed to traffic attrition in some eastern lanes, according to data submitted to the Intermodal Association of North America.
Traffic moving from the Northeast to the Midwest declined 5 percent, and small declines were also reported in moves going from the Southeast with Northeastern and Mountain Central destinations, the IANA said.
The IANA also attributed the decline in traffic to the gradual slowing of the U.S. economy. Preliminary figures show economic growth at a rate of 2.7 percent in the third quarter, compared to 5.6 percent in the second quarter of this year.
