Improved rail benefits Southampton terminal
DP World Southampton said Wednesday the percentage of containers moving to and from the U.K. container terminal has increased from 30 percent to 36 percent since the terminal completed a major rail infrastructure project in April.
The project has bettered turnaround times for trucks and increased quay crane productivity by 20 percent, Chris Lewis, managing director of the terminal, said in a statement. The DP facility now has the highest proportion of intermodal volume of any container terminal in the United Kingdom, he said.
