India eyeing triple-stack trains for cars
The Indian Railways are planning a pilot test of a triple-stack container train to move cars between the southern city of Pune and Delhi. The two cities are prime auto-manufacturing centers.
“Double-stack containers are successful,' V.N. Mathur, Railway Board Member (Traffic), told the Economic Times Tuesday. 'We are now thinking triple-stack containers but only for carrying automobiles.'
Double-stack trains were launched in India last year along a route linking Delhi and the western port of Nhava Sheva.
