INTERCONTAINER, TRANSASIA ACQUIRE TRANSFRACHT’S FORMER RUSSIAN OPRERATION
InterRail Services GmbH, a 50/50 joint venture between
Intercontainer-Interfrigo and Transasia Holding, has acquired the Confederation of Independent States intermodal business of the German intermodal operator Transfracht International.
The price of the transaction was not disclosed.
The acquired business handles some 5,000 TEUs a year to and from the CIS.
Transfracht said that it is concentrating on its core business — transport activities between German seaports and their hinterland — and intermodal traffic with the CIS was not part of it.
The staff manning the former CIS business unit will be transferred to InterRail Services.
“The influx of additional know-how and some extra 5,000 TEUs per year will place our activities in the CIS traffic sector on a more robust footing,” said Werner Albert, chief executive officer of Transasia.
Ren' Hellinghausen, chairman and chief executive officer of Intercontainer-Interfrigo, said that he is convinced that the CIS economy will take off in the medium term.
