The Port of Oakland attributed the decline in volumes primarily to reduced exports, as import volumes grew for the fourth consecutive month.
The Port of Oakland handled 203,623 TEUs of containerized cargo in June (including full and empty containers), 1 percent fewer than in June 2014.
The drop in volume reflects a 7.6 percent reduction in loaded export containers, amounting to 76,680 TEUs in June.
The port attributed the decline to the continuing strength of the U.S. dollar.
Containerized import volumes increased in June for the fourth straight month at the Port of Oakland. The port handled the equivalent of 75,780 loaded TEUs, 2.6 percent more than the same period the prior year.
The port handled 17,751 TEUs of inbound empties and 32,412 TEUs of outbound empties in June.
