The Japanese liner carrier said it has suffered considerable damage after some of APL Logistics’ employees disseminated false information about its financial health.
Japanese liner carrier Kawasaki Kisen Kaisha, Ltd. (“K’’ Line) filed a civil lawsuit against APL Logistics Ltd. (APLL) on Thursday in Tokyo District Court.
“K” Line said in a press release it filed the lawsuit to seek compensation for damages arising from some of APLL’s employees spreading false information relating to “K” Line’s financial health.
“K” Line said some of APLL’s employees “have disseminated false information to “K” Line’s clients, which had spread globally, by sending e-mails in which they strongly recommend terminating bookings on “K” Line and shifting to other carriers, because of a potential bankruptcy. Thus, the reputation of “K” Line has been substantially damaged, and “K” Line has suffered considerable damage due to cancellations or suspensions of bookings by clients.”
APLL President Beat Simon said in September, “A small number of APL Logistics Group employees conveyed opinions to several customers that touch on the potential financial position or viability of “K” Line. These employees have since retracted their statements or are in the process of doing so.”
