The Swiss-based third-party logistics provider in May started printing the total amount of carbon dioxide emissions generated by sea freight shipments on each invoice.
Kuehne + Nagel (K + N) started printing the total amount of carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions generated by ocean freight shipments on each invoice in May, becoming the first logistics provider to disclose CO2 emissions on its invoices, the company said.
Customers can now improve the analysis, reporting and management of CO2 emissions caused by their transport chain, K + N explained.
The Swiss-based third-party logistics provider is calculating the emissions using data from its online Global Seafreight Carbon Calculator, providing instant overviews of CO2, sulfur oxide and nitrous oxide emissions for full container load and less-than-containerload movements from door to door.
Although the program began in May, K + N’s announcement came just a few days after President Donald Trump announced he would withdraw the United States from the Paris Climate Agreement, a multilateral partnership between nearly 200 countries to address climate change by setting voluntary emissions reduction goals.
