Kansas City logistics park attracts home décor shipper

NorthPoint Development and NAI Capital Realty have arranged a long-term lease with Demdaco for a 326,650-square-foot distribution center at Logistics Park Kansas City.
Demdaco specializes in gift and home décor products. The company manages all aspects of bringing its products to market, including distribution, which has been handled from North Kansas City for the last 12 years.
“We are thrilled to be one of the first tenants to relocate to Logistics Park Kansas City adjacent to the BNSF intermodal facility,” said Steve Fowler, Demdaco’s chief operating officer. “This move will improve our operating efficiencies by being in a new, state-of-the-art facility and by being very close to the intermodal site through which most of our product is delivered.”
Located in Edgerton, Kan., a suburb southwest of Kansas City, LPKC is a 1,100-acre distribution and warehouse development that will be anchored by BNSF’s newest intermodal facility, which will open in the fourth quarter of 2013.
The construction of the Demdaco building is the third major distribution facility announced for the logistics park and will join the new DeLong Grain facility and a new 500,000-square-foot speculative warehouse under construction.
By locating at logistics park, Demdaco will benefit from a reduction in transportation and logistics costs as well from an arrangement with the DeLong Grain to use Demdaco’s empty containers for grain export, the developers said.
