KLM POSTS LOSS FOR QUARTER
KLM Royal Dutch Airlines reported a net loss of 29 million
Dutch
guilders ($14.9 million) in its fiscal third quarter ending Dec. 31,
compared to net income of 46 million guilders in 1997.
The company attributed the loss to weakness in Asian
markets, excess
capacity on key North Atlantic routes and a labor strike at partner
Northwest Airlines.
For the nine months ending Dec. 31, KLM reported net income
of 543
million guilders on 10.3 billion guilders in revenue, compared to NLG
1.1 billion on NLG 10.2 billion a year earlier.
