KOREAN AIR FREIGHTER CRASHES IN CHINA
A Korean Air all-cargo plane crashed shortly after takeoff at Shanghai
on Thursday, killing at least four people and injuring dozens more on the
ground.
The seven-year-old MD-11 freighter was scheduled to fly to Seoul, with
slightly less than a full payload, according to wire reports.
The accident came a day after Korean said it will retire 15 aircraft
from its fleet, hire 50 foreign pilots and slow its expansion in response
to government concerns about safety at the fast-growing carrier. A Korean
Air B747 crashed into a mountain in Guam in 1997, killing all 227 people
aboard.
