KUEHNE & NAGEL NET INCOME JUMPS 7.1%

   Kuehne & Nagel, the Swiss/German forwarding and logistics group, said
its net income rose 7.1 percent last year to 82 million Swiss francs ($59
million), the highest in company history.
   The group’s turnover was up by 6 percent, to 6.62 billion Swiss francs
($4.8 billion). Net turnover after customs duty and taxes rose by 6
percent, to 5.08 billion Swiss francs ($3.68 billion).
   Gross profit improved by 4 percent, to 1.22 billion Swiss francs ($884
million).
   Kuehne & Nagel said a strong performance in overseas operations and key
contributions from the U.S., Canada and the Asia-Pacific region offset
economic problems in Asia-Pacific and in Russia.
