Kuehne + Nagel opens distribution center in Slovenia

The pharmaceutical and healthcare facility is part of a plan to expand multimodal and temperature-controlled forwarding and warehousing services worldwide.

Kuehne + Nagel has opened a dedicated pharmaceutical and healthcare warehouse, one of the largest in its global KN PharmaChain network.
The facility, strategically located near the Ljubljana Airport, will be used for the distribution of finished products worldwide and for the storage and distribution of production materials for the pharmaceutical industry. Kuehne + Nagel said the eco-friendly distribution center has the highest security standards and state-of-the-art technology.
The 38,000-square-meter facility has the capacity of about 65,000 pallet locations for reception, storage and distribution of temperature-sensitive products and has three cold chambers, Kuehne + Nagel said.
“The new facility further underlines Kuehne + Nagel’s continuous commitment to expand its multimodal and temperature-controlled forwarding and warehousing services worldwide,” the company said in Monday’s announcement. “With a global network of currently close to 200 certified operations, 600,000 square meters of industry-dedicated warehousing space and a team of specially trained operators, KN PharmaChain addresses the need of pharma and healthcare customers for a standardized, reliable and compliant end-to-end logistics offering.”
Kuehne + Nagel said the opening of the distribution center also strengthens its presence in the Slovenian market.
Gianfranco Sgro, a member of the managing board of Kuehne + Nagel International AG and responsible for contract logistics, said, “The pharma and healthcare industry is among the most important growth driers for Kuehne + Nagel. Therefore it is of strategic importance to further strengthen our integrated KN PharmaChain network.”
