Kuehne + Nagel targets top 5 contract logistics position in Gulf
Switzerland’s Kuehne + Nagel has set its sights on becoming a leading contract logistics player in the United Arab Emirates and greater Gulf region.
The Basel-based firm will open its second logistics hub in Dubai Logistics City in mid-2008. Upon completion of the first phase of construction, the new facility will feature 15,000 square meters of logistics and warehouse space, with the option to expand to a total of 30,000 square meters. The new facility will complement its existing 16,000-square-meter logistics terminal in the Jebel Ali free trade zone.
“By 2010, we plan to significantly expand our contract logistics operations and capacity across the entire Gulf region to over 200,000 square meters,” said Dirk Reich, executive vice president, contract logistics and member of the management board of Kuehne + Nagel International AG. “Ultimately, our objective is to become one of the region’s top five contract logistics providers.”
