L.A. container volumes behind 2012 pace

   The Port of Los Angeles said it handled 710,892 TEUs, including empty containers, in September, 4.57 percent fewer than in the same 2012 period.
   Combined total loaded imports and exports for September decreased
6.55 percent from 557,683 TEUs last September to 521,165 TEUs this
September. Empties increased 1.33 percent year
over year.
   Imports declined 3.75 percent from 385,250 TEUs in September
2012 to 370,785 TEUs this September. Exports decreased 12.79 percent
from 172,432 TEUs in September 2012 to 150,380 TEUs this September.
   The port said it was the third consecutive month volumes exceeded 700,000 TEUs.
   Year to date the port has handled 5,847,168 TEUs, or 5.51 percent fewer boxes than the same 2012 period.
