Las Vegas airport gets taxiway makeover

The U.S. Transportation Department will give a $17.8 million grant to reconstruct two major taxiways at McCarran International Airport in Las Vegas.
The Federal Aviation Administration Airport Improvement Program (AIP) grant will allow for the rehabilitation of 5,000 feet of Taxiway E, which runs parallel to and between the airport’s north-south runways. It also will fund the resurfacing of Taxiway H, which runs parallel to and west of those runways.
The project will replace the existing cracked pavement with a surface that’s more durable, requires less maintenance and stands up better to high desert temperatures. The project will also improve Taxiway H signage.
AIP provides $3.35 billion in annual funding for projects that are essential to maintaining safety, capacity, and environment of the country’s airports. More than 3,300 airports are eligible for AIP grants benefiting passengers, cargo operations, and general aviation activities.
