Long Beach harbor commissioners elect Calhoun president
The Long Beach, Calif., Board of Harbor Commissioners has elected John R. Calhoun the board's president for a one-year term.
The harbor commissioners also elected Doris Topsy-Elvord vice president of the five-member governing board for the port of Long Beach. Other members are James C. Hankla, secretary; Mario Cordero, assistant secretary, and John W. Hancock, who has just completed two one-year terms as president.
Calhoun was Long Beach's city attorney for 12 years, as well as commander of the 6386th Logistics Reinforcement Training Unit in the U.S. Army Reserve.
Topsy-Elvord is a former Long Beach city councilwoman. Hankla was formerly chief executive officer of the Alameda Corridor Transportation Authority. Cordero is an attorney with the firm of Adelson, Testan and Brundo in Long Beach. Hancock is president of the Bancorp Investment Group.
