Long Beach names Walter harbor commissioner
The city council of Long Beach, Calif., has appointed C.J. 'Mike' Walter to the five-member Long Beach Board of Harbor Commissioners, which oversees the Port of Long Beach.
Walter, assistant to the president for community relations at California State University Long Beach, is a professor of international business at Cal State. A well-known philanthropist, Walter has donated $2.1 million to the university, which gave his name to a new sports complex. In business, he has been senior vice president for international operations at Levi Strauss, and held upper-management positions at DuPont and Rockwell International.
Walter's six year term as harbor commissioner begins July 5. He succeeds John R. Calhoun.
