Long Beach port names new government affairs director
The Port of Long Beach said Monday that public relations executive Samara Ashley has been selected as the port's new director of government affairs.
Ashley, who must still pass a city hiring procedure, would fill a vacancy left when former director Carl Kemp resigned earlier this year to become a partner with Englander & Associates Public Relations.
The port's director of government affairs is responsible for advising port executives and officials on port-related legislative issues and assists in developing the port's legislative agenda. The director also serves as the port's representative to federal, state and local governments and manages the port's lobbyists.
Ashley most recently served as an account executive with the Los Angeles-based public relations firm of Cerrell Associates Inc.
