Los Angeles and Long Beach drayage drivers ratify contract

Drivers at Shippers Transport Express ratified a one year contract.

Port truck drivers employed by Shippers Transport Express (STE) in the Ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach – who were reclassified as “employees” on Jan. 1, 2015, and subsequently voted to designate Teamsters Local 848 as their union – ratified a one year contract with STE on Sunday.
The Teamsters said drivers will be paid an hourly wage of $21, up from $18 per hour. The wage is retroactive to Jan. 9.
Workers will be paid an overtime rate $30.50 per hour after 40 hours, receive employer paid medical insurance, participate in a defined benefit pension plan, and receive eight paid holidays and four paid sick days per year.
