Lowe’s to open warehouse in Northeast Pennsylvania
Lowe’s Home Centers Inc. plans to build a nearly 1.6 million-square-foot distribution center in Jenkins Township, Pa., about midway between Scranton and Wilkes Barre, reports the Citizen’s Voice, a regional newspaper.
A zoning permit for a warehouse-distribution center was approved by Jenkins Township earlier this year that was submitted by Mericle Commercial Real Estate Services and Lowe’s, the paper noted. A deed filed last week in Luzerne County indicated that Lowe’s had purchased the 130-acre parcel from a division of Mericle for $28.7 million.
The paper said Lowe’s had been entertaining proposals from New Jersey and New York to site the distribution center in their states.
The Pennsylvania site is about equidistant ' 115 to 125 miles — from the docks in either New York-New Jersey or Philadelphia.
