LYKES NAME TO REPLACE IVARAN
The name of Ivaran Lines, a carrier specializing in the South American
trades, will disappear next month and be replaced by Lykes Lines.
The change was announced by Americana Ships, a joint venture of TMM and CP
Ships, whose subsidiaries include Lykes and Ivaran.
Frank Halliwell, chief executive of Americana, said the name change
won’t affect Ivaran’s operations. He said the name change follows a survey
of shippers which showed that the Lykes name had greater recognition.
Halliwell also said Americana’s various services plan several other
changes in the next few months. Those include reorganizing U.S./North
Europe services into two five-ship loops, increasing the frequency of U.S.
Gulf/Mediterranean services from 11 days to weekly, and reviewing TMM’s
joint venture with APL in the transpacific trades.
