Maersk and Hapag-Lloyd announce rate hikes

Two carriers announce GRIs effective February 1 for several trades.

   Maersk and Hapag-Lloyd have announced general rate increases effective February 1:
   Maersk Line will increase rates on cargo moving from North Europe to the United States and Canada. The amount of the general rate increase is $170 for 20-foot containers, $200 for 40-foot containers, including 40-foot high cube containers and high cube reefers, and $300 for 45 foot high cube containers, according to Maersk’s Weekly Highlights newsletter.
   Maersk also said will increase rates on cargo moving from North America to the Far East. The amount of the general rate increase is $80 for 20-foot containers and $100 for 40-foot, 40-foot high cube, and 45 foot high cube containers.
   Hapag-Lloyd said it will implement a general rate increase from the Indian Subcontinent and Middle East to the US and Canada
of $425 for 20 foot containers and $500 for 40-foot, 40-foot high cube and 40-foot reefer containers.
