Maersk Line, Ltd. (MLL) said Thursday it has completed the acquisition of 3PSC, a privately-held company that operates ships for the U.S. Navy.
Based in Cape Canaveral, Fla., 3PSC has contracts to operate six “Pathfinder Class” T-AGS oceanographic ships for the Navy and one vessel currently under construction by VT Halter Marine. It also operates two large, medium-speed roll-on/roll-off ships for the Navy.
MLL, the U.S.-flag ship-operating arm of Denmark’s A.P. Moller-Maersk Group, said the deal “solidifies MLL’s position as a leading government contractor.”
Under the terms of the agreement, MLL will take over 3PSC’s current contract for the operation and maintenance of special mission ships owned by the Navy’s Military Sealift Command. MLL said it plans to integrate 3PSC into its Norfolk headquarters by the end of the year.
John F. Reinhart, president and chief executive officer of MLL, said “during our visits to the Cape Canaveral office, we have been impressed by the technical expertise and professionalism of the 3PSC team. We are pleased to have them join Maersk Line, Limited.”
3PSC has about 20 employees, led by Gary King, founder, president and CEO of 3PSC. King is leaving 3PSC as part of the agreement. – Chris Dupin
