MAERSK NAMES 7TH 6,600-TEU CONTAINERSHIP
A. P. Moller, the parent company of Maersk Line, has named the Svend
Maersk, the seventh "S-class" 6,600-TEU delivered to the Danish carrier by
Odense, the group’s shipyard.
The ship is part of a series of six 6,000-TEU vessels and nine 6,600-TEU
vessels that started with the Regina Maersk in 1996. Another two 6,600-TEU ships are due
to be built for Maersk this year at the Odense shipyard, followed by a new series of six
3,700-TEU ships.
The Svend Maersk will join the "AE-1" Asia-Europe service of
Maersk and Sea-Land Service by the end of March.
