MAERSK SEALAND DEPLOYS NEW 6,600-TEU VESSEL
A new 6,600-TEU containership has joined the Europe/Asia service of Maersk Sealand.
The “A.P. Moller,” built by the A.P. Moller’s Odense Steel shipyard in Denmark, is the latest in a series of “S-class” post-Panamax containerships built for Maersk Sealand. The vessel and its sisterships have an official capacity of 6,600-TEU but are believed to be able to carry 7,100 TEUs.
Maersk Sealand said that the new ship will join its AE5/TP6 Europe/Asia/U.S. West Coast pendulum service in July. The service calls weekly at Gothenburg, Bremerhaven, Felixstowe, Rotterdam, Algeciras, Salalah, Singapore, Yantian, Hong Kong, Long Beach, Tacoma, Yokohama, Kobe, Kaohsiung, Hong Kong, Yantian, Singapore, Port Kelang, Algeciras, Felixstowe, Rotterdam, Gothenburg and Bremerhaven.
The phasing in of the new ship into the Europe/Asia/U.S. West Coast service represents a further increase by Maersk Sealand of its capacity in the transpacific and Asia/Europe trades.
