MAERSK TAKES SPACE ON DIRECT U.S./SOUTH AFRICA CONTAINER SERVICE
MAERSK TAKES SPACE ON DIRECT U.S./SOUTH AFRICA CONTAINER SERVICE
Maersk Line will provide a direct service between the U.S. East
Coast and South Africa from Aug. 1 by taking space on the joint container service of
SafBank and Mediterranean Shipping Co.
The service calls at New York, Baltimore, Norfolk, Charleston, Freeport
(Bahamas), Durban, Port Elizabeth and Cape Town.
Maersk previously operated a transshipment container service between
the U.S. and South Africa.
The move follows Maersk’s acquisition earlier this year of Safmarine
Container Lines, the parent company of SafBank.
The changes do not affect the joint U.S./South Africa multi-purpose
service of SafBank and Lykes, which will continue to run without any involvement by
Maersk.
