Maersk warns of inland delays after UP rail embargoes

Maersk Sealand has warned its customers that container traffic to, from, or moving via all Los Angeles basin stations, some Midwest ramps, and the Las Vegas station will be affected by rail embargoes issued last week by Union Pacific.

CSX Intermodal and Norfolk Southern will no longer be accepting shipments at their intermodal terminals that move in the impacted lanes, until further notice, the Danish mega-carrier added in an advisory.

“Cargo moving in these corridors may experience availability delays,” it warned.

The imposed embargoes will impact most UP cargo moving to and from Southern California via various Midwest gateways. Maersk Sealand expects the Salt Lake City and Denver lanes to be the most heavily affected.

UP has published updated lists of stations where it has imposed rail embargoes, together with exemptions, at http://www.uprr.com/customers/embargo/index.shtml .
