Magee, shipping executive, dead at 61
A memorial mass will be held Dec. for Bob Magee, a senior executive at Saltchuk Resources who died on Nov. 30 at the age of 61.
A graduate of the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy, Magee began working for Totem Ocean Trailer Express (TOTE), the company’s Alaska shipping line, in May 1986 as vice president of marine operations and eventually became president and chief operating officer of TOTE.
He later became chairman of its Puerto Rico shipping line Sea Star Line, then chairman and COO of American Shipping Group, which oversees Saltchuk’s blue water activities including TOTE, Sea Star and Interocean American Shipping, a technical ship management and ship crewing company.
“Bob was instrumental in conceiving and overseeing the successful construction and delivery of the Alaska ORCA ships and was also the champion of the creation of Sea Star,” Saltchuk said.
Magee is survived by his parents Robert and Kathleen, brother Kevin, sisters Kathleen and Diane, his wife Marie, and daughters Kathleen and Alicia.
A funeral was held on Dec. 5 in Ocean City, N.J., and Dec. 14 memorial mass will be 5 p.m. at St. Theresa’s Church, 3939 S.W. 331st St., Federal Way, Wash. A reception follows at the Hotel Murano in Tacoma. The family asks that in lieu of flowers contributions be made to Seattle Cancer Care Alliance, 825 Eastlake Ave. E., Seattle, WA 98109.
