MarAd opens VISA enrollment
The U.S. Maritime Administration has opened enrollment to the Voluntary Intermodal Sealift Agreement (VISA) program for the Defense Department contracting period of Oct. 1 to Sept. 30, 2006.
The purpose of VISA is to provide the military with access to U.S.-flag commercial sealift and intermodal shipping systems to meet wartime or national emergency needs. The program provides for the staged, time-phased availability to these assets when required by the military.
The program is managed by the Maritime Administration and U.S. Transportation Command.
