MARAD TO HOLD MARITIME SECURITY STANDARDS MEETING

The U.S. Maritime Administration will hold a one-day maritime security standards conference March 20 at the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy in Kings Point, N.Y.

During the conference, MarAd will take comments and suggestions regarding draft standards and curricula for the education, training and certification of maritime security personnel. Section 109 of the 2002 Maritime Transportation Security Act requires the development of these standards.

“The results of this important project will help to ensure that the United States and its trading partners have properly trained and appropriately educated personnel to help secure ships, ports, waterways, and their intermodal connections against the threat of terrorism and other criminal activity,” MarAd said.

To register for the conference, contact Meredith Hobbs via e-mail at hobbsm@usmma.edu or by telephone at (516) 773-5162.
