Rates were lower in March 2015 than the previous year despite increasing slightly from February, according to the latest Cass Intermodal Price Index.
Intermodal rates fell 1.6 percent in March 2015 compared to March 2014, according to the latest Cass Intermodal Price Index.
The transportation intelligence analyst said rates were up from February, but the increase was not enough to offset the respective 1.8 percent and 0.3 percent year-over-year decreases in February and January.
“With diesel prices continuing to fall, loads are shifting (to the extent that capacity is available) from domestic intermodal back to over-the-road truck, which is challenging demand and pricing power for intermodal,” said Cass Information Systems Inc. in a statement.
