A lookout spotted the man more than 400 nautical miles off the Philippines coast.
A Filipino fisherman adrift in the North Pacific Ocean for 20 days was rescued Saturday by the crew of the MISC LNG vessel Seri Begawan.
A lookout on duty on the navigation bridge spotted the fisherman in a small boat more than 400 nautical miles off the Philippines coast during Seri Begawan’s voyage from Gladstone, Australia to Beihai, China. The vessel is operated by MISC’s integrated marine services arm, Eaglestar.
Following his rescue, the 39-year-old Filipino was provided with food and medical attention. He reportedly was lost at sea when his boat was separated from the mother vessel during bad weather.
The fisherman disembarked Seri Begawan near the coast of the Philippines on Sunday and the ship resumed the voyage to China.
The Philippines Coast Guard presented the Seri Begawan crew a letter of commendation for the exemplary humanitarian action.
