MOL moving headquarters from Calif. to Ill.
Japanese ocean carrier MOL said Thursday it will move its North America headquarters from Concord, Calif. to Lombard, Ill. later this year.
MOL becomes the second major carrier in less than a year to leave the Bay Area, after APL announced in fall 2008 it was departing Oakland for Phoenix.
MOL already has a presence in Lombard, with its product management team stationed there.
'The consolidation will allow for a greater synergy among the interactions between trade management and the product management team, which is already located in Lombard,' said Noboru Kitazawa, president of MOL (America) Inc. 'This will improve our ability to optimize vessel and intermodal networks to enhance revenue and cost management, as well as broaden our employees' career opportunities.'

Relocation of staff to Lombard is scheduled for early August 2009. MOL did not specify how many employees would be affected by the move.
