MOL offers barge service from Cambodia
MOL said shippers moving cargo from Cambodia to North America will benefit from a new barge service connecting Phnom Penh with Ho Chi Minh City through reduced transit times, and savings due to lower intermodal and inventory carrying costs.
The company said cargo loaded at a river terminal in Cambodia and moved by barge to Ho Chi Minh's deepwater terminal and loaded on MOL's line-haul vessels for direct service to North America and within Asia.
“By utilizing Phnom Penh's barge service, MOL will now provide two to 10 days faster transit times to the USWC and Canada than our present routes over Singapore,” the company said.
MOL said that customarily, Phnom Penh containers are trucked to Sihanoukville in southern Cambodia where they are transferred to feeder vessels, shipped to Singapore and transshipped to line-haul vessels bound for North America.
Direct barge service to Ho Chi Minh will reduce intermodal travel and eliminate the need for feeder services and transshipping in Singapore, MOL said.
