Moran Transportation acquires Mats Trucking

Great Lakes regional less-than-truckload carrier Moran Transportation Corp. purchased the assets of Eagan, Minn.-based Mats Trucking for an undisclosed sum back in April, but waited until rebranding was complete to announce it.

Moran Transportation Corp. has purchased Eagan, Minn.-based Mats Trucking, according to a report from the American Trucking Associations’ Transport Topics news.
Moran, a regional less-than-truckload carrier operating primarily in the Great Lakes and surrounding areas, reportedly acquired the assets of Mats Trucking back in April, but waited to announce the deal until after Mats had been rebranded. Moran executives also wanted to have the company’s technology system fully installed and integrated in to Mats’ operations.
Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.
In the transaction, Moran acquired 60 pieces of equipment, tractors and trailers, terminals in Eagan and Bensenville, Ill., and the book of business and accounts receivable of Mats.
“When the owners decided to retire, it made a lot of sense to acquire the company and operate it directly,” President Mike Moran Jr. said of the purchase. Moran has made “three or four other acquisitions over the last 48 months,” he added, with Mats being the largest of the recent deals.
Moran Transportation, which specializes in non-loading dock, non-residential freight, usually picked up and delivered by trucks with liftgates, has a service area that includes Illinois, Indiana, Minnesota and Wisconsin.
