MSC will put largest containership ever into service in January

The 19,224-TEU “MSC Oscar” will operate between Asia and Europe.

   Mediterranean Shipping Co. said it will put into service the world’s largest containership next month.
   The 19,224-TEU MSC Oscar is under construction by Daewoo Shipyard in Okpo, South Korea, and will sail under the Panamanian flag.
   The vessel inauguration ceremony will take place during the first week in January and will be attended by Diego Aponte, MSC’s president and chief executive officer. The vessel will join the Albatross string between Asia and Europe, departing Dalian on Jan. 25.
   The ship is named after Diego Aponte’s son Oscar.
   The company said the ship is 395.4 meters long and has a breadth of 59 meters.
