The Miscellaneous Tariff Bill Act of 2017, which was referred to the Senate Finance Committee Wednesday, would apply new tariff benefits for 1,675 harmonized tariff system numbers, with a general expiration date of Dec. 31, 2020.
The Miscellaneous Tariff Bill (MTB) Act of 2017 was referred to the Senate Finance Committee Wednesday, a day after the House passed it under an expedited vote procedure.
The MTB would be the first since the last one expired at the end of 2012, before the House implemented an earmark ban that forced Congress to install a new process for MTB consideration.
The legislation would apply new tariff benefits for 1,675 harmonized tariff system numbers, with a general expiration date of Dec. 31, 2020.
Senate Finance didn’t comment on the process for considering the legislation, but said committee Chairman Orrin Hatch, R-Utah, continues to work on passing the bill “as soon as possible.”
