MTMC OFFERS ONLINE COMMUNICATIONS TO TRANSPORT INDUSTRY
The U.S. Military Traffic Management Command has developed an Internet-based program to allow commercial transportation companies to communicate directly with the agency’s automated transportation systems.
MTMC, the overland and ocean transportation logistics arm of the U.S. armed forces, began to develop the system about 18 months ago. It allows commercial operators to bypass the Defense Department’s NIPRNET (Internet Protocol Routing Network) to go directly to MTMC’s automated systems.
“Under the concept, transportation companies doing business with MTMC may directly link to the organization’s automated systems. They do this via their commercial Internet service provider,” the agency said.
Transportation providers for passenger moves were the first to use the new service. But MTMC said the system will include its CONUS freight management system, integrated booking system, on-line personal property rates, financial management system and the agency’s website.
