After taking the consumer market by storm, famed electric automaker Tesla will attempt to break into the commercial truck market later this year, founder and CEO Elon Musk said in a tweet yesterday.
Musk said Tesla will unveil its all-electric semi truck in September, boasting that the vehicle will be “seriously next level.”
The project to develop an electric-powered commercial truck was announced last year, along with a Model X-based minibus, both of which the company said would enter production within two to three years.
“We expect to unveil those for the middle of next year, maybe the next six to nine months type of thing. And then [we’d] have a better, more fleshed-out plan for when those would enter production,” Musk said on a conference call discussing the company’s second quarter earnings last August.
In addition, Musk said in a separate tweet Tesla will reveal an electric-powered pickup truck design some time in the next 18 to 24 months.
