N.Y. health food firm expanding West Coast operations in Ontario
New York-based health food manufacturer Fortitech Inc. is nearing completion of a new Ontario warehouse as part of a plan to expand its operations on the West Coast.
Work on the 53,000-square-foot facility is expected to be completed by the end of the summer. When finished, the manufacturing and distribution center will serve the firm's clients on the West Coast and in Mexico.
The facility, which will produce the firm's West Coast-only botanical premixes, will be three-and-a-half times larger than the firm's current facility about 14 miles away in Fontana. It will produce more than 7,000 tons of the firm's custom premixes per year.
The privately held firm, one of the largest nutritional additive manufacturers in the world, provides nutrient premixes that are used to fortify a variety of foods, including infant food, cereals, sports drinks, nutrition bars, supplements, snack foods, baked goods, noodles and rice.
In addition to the Ontario facility, the firm is also building a manufacturing and laboratory facility near Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, relocating a distribution office in Mexico and completing the addition of 35,000 square feet of warehouse space to its headquarters in Schenectady, N.Y.
