National Interstate names Mercurio COO

   National Interstate Corp. has appointed Tony Mercurio to executive vice president and chief operating officer, effective Jan. 1.
   He joined National Interstate in 1997 and currently serves as chief executive officer of Vanliner Insurance Co., one of National Interstate’s insurance subsidiaries.
   National Interstate provides insurance to the freight transportation and storage industries.

Chris Gillis

Located in the Washington, D.C. area, Chris Gillis primarily reports on regulatory and legislative topics that impact cross-border trade. He joined American Shipper in 1994, shortly after graduating from Mount St. Mary’s College in Emmitsburg, Md., with a degree in international business and economics.
