New AA Cargo service to benefit pharma shippers

American Airlines’ new daily, non-stop wide-body service between San Juan, Puerto Rico and Philadelphia is scheduled to begin April 4.

American Airlines will launch a daily, non-stop wide-body service between San Juan Luis Muñoz Marín Airport and Philadelphia International Airport on April 4.
The wide-body aircraft is an Airbus A330-200 passenger plane, and will join two existing daily narrow-body flights.
AA Cargo said the new service will provide additional capacity for shippers transporting goods to and from Puerto Rico, including pharmaceuticals, cell phones, medical instruments and aircraft parts. At Philadelphia, the cargo airline operates a dedicated 25,000-square-foot pharmaceutical cargo-handling facility.
According to the Puerto Rico Report (2016), the Caribbean island accounted for 24 percent of all pharmaceutical and medicine exports from the United States, making San Juan one of the largest pharmaceutical manufacturing locations in the world, the airline noted.
