The newest container terminal in Busan’s New Port deepwater container complex has received its first vessel call, the port said Monday.
The ship, operated by the South Korean liner carrier KMTC on its service between Incheon and Hong Kong, arrived over the weekend at the Busan New Container Terminal (BNCT).
The terminal, which began operations in December, is owned and operated by a consortium of eight partners. The largest shareholder is Macquarie Korea Infrastructure Fund, while other partners include KMTC, CMA CGM, and the Busan Port Authority.
The terminal has capacity for 1.8 million TEUs, with potential to increase to 2.7 million TEUs by 2014.
