New report compares warehousing costs in 25 U.S. regions

Boyd Group report compares the operating costs of warehousing in 25 cities across the United States, based on a hypothetical 500,000-square foot facility.

A new report from location consultants The Boyd Group has found that Stoughton, Mass. is the most expensive warehousing location among the 25 regions examined, while Chesterfield, Va. is the least expensive.
The study, based on operating costs as scaled to a hypothetical 500,000-square foot distribution center employing 150 hourly workers, takes into account major geographically-variable factors critical to the corporate site selection process such as labor, real estate, construction, taxes, utilities and shipping.
The report found Chesterfield is poised to benefit from advantageous costs as well as the potential of the widened Panama Canal to increase trade. In the West, the report cites Ritzville, Wa. as the best suited for warehouse development, while in the Gulf region, it found Humble, Texas as likely to capitalize on trade with Cuba and connections to the U.S. Southwest.
