New wood packaging regulations for imports to Taiwan
Taiwan has passed new regulations on wood packaging for imported commodities that will go into effect at the beginning of 2009.
The country’s Bureau of Animal and Plant Health Inspection and Quarantine’s new regulation requires wood packaging material to be treated in the exporting country prior to export, according to International Standards for Phytosanitary Measures No. 15 under the supervision of the plant quarantine authority of the exporting country. Wood packaging material that does not comply with the requirements, will be treated by methyl bromide fumigation, heat treatment, destroyed or reshipped on importer’s request.
