Next phase close for Palm Beach project
The Port of Palm Beach's South Gate Complex is getting close to reaching an important new phase, said Lori Baer, port director.
The demolition phase of the project took down old structures and prepared the area for new construction. Bids will likely be awarded within weeks for work on new warehouse space and additional cargo laydown areas, Baer said.
South Gate, a $16 million project, will provide improved facilities for the port's growing breakbulk business. It will also provide a new entranceway for those cargoes, and decrease congestion for the port's long-established container shipping operations offered by Tropical Shipping, the port's largest tenant.
Once complete, the project will improve separation between container and breakbulk operations, improving efficiencies in both areas.
