NIT LEAGUE WANTS FMC TO MONITOR ATLANTIC PACT
The National Industrial Transportation League has urged the Federal
Maritime Commission to "closely monitor" the new North Atlantic Agreement
of carriers.
The NAA would take the place of the Trans-Atlantic Conference Agreement.
Carriers say the NAA, which includes almost all transatlantic lines, will concentrate on
capacity issues.
The NIT League noted that the NAA will have a much larger market share
than TACA has had. The league said that "presents serious potential
concerns to shippers."
The NIT League said that if the NAA becomes an effective conference
agreement, the FMC should closely monitor its activities — "in particular,
any activities that involve capacity restrictions or management."
